Gwendoline Robin

Gwendoline Robin trained as visual artist. For the past twenty years, she has created her own artistic path, where she uses her body and puts it at risk, creating art installations and performances. In her work, she measures herself against the elements: fire and explosions, glass and earth, and more recently water. Her performances seem to densify time and space.
Since 2005, she has been performing internationally at dance and live art festivals in Europe, Canada, Chile, Australia and Asia.
In 2007, she became associate artist at Les Halles de Schaerbeek (Brussels). There, she met Ida De Vos during the “Dimanches de la Danse » season (“The Sundays of dance”). From 2009, De Vos became a regular collaborator, feeding in Robin’s research on movement and her relation to space.
She has also collaborated with a number of artists from different background: musician Garrett List, choreographers Karin Vyncke, Pierre Droulers, Boris Charmatz and soon Louise Vanneste. These collaborations have given her the desire to connect her performative practices with a stronger sense of dramaturgy.
In 2013, she invited artists to collaborate with her: dancer Ida De Vos, set and lighting designer Simon Siegmann and sound designer Olivier Renouf. Their objective was to question even further Robin’s work and create a new piece of work. The collaboration resulted in the creation of “J’ai toujours voulu voir un volcan” (“I’ve always wanted to see a volcano”), that premiered in 2014 at Tour & Taxi as part of Kunstenfestivaldesarts. In this promenade piece, Robin created a telluric farce: the landscape she created and shared with the audience was in constant evolution under the pressure of bodies, materials, sounds and lights.
In 2013, at the Brigittines, as part of Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Gwendoline Robin presented her new performance piece “Cratère n°6899”.
Robin is now working on her new project “A.G.U.A.” (title in progress).
Here, Gwendoline Robin is interested in combining artistic and scientific research. She will explore the relationship between Hearth, Water and Universe. The piece will premiere at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in May 2018.
Gwendoline Robin teaches at the Academy des Beaux-Arts in Tournai and at the ESA, the 75 and at La Cambre in Brussels.
