A self space dedicated to...

aux Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers

Having turned the question of restorative and regenerative spaces into an artistic project, Sophie Sénécaut invites the Girl Zone, Higlhlights and inBEATween collectives to share their practices, thoughts and perspectives.
The discussion will be followed by two Krump masterclasses and a Come and dance with us session.

Sophie Sénécaut: "When I lack oxygen and perspective - and I often do, on a daily basis - where do I go to find oxygen and perspective? Where do I go to find them? Because "us" isn’t just hip-hop, and hip-hop isn’t Waacking, it isn’t Krump, it isn’t Voguing, it isn’t House. It’s about different cultures, different histories. In my opinion, in these cultures we find ’the invitation’, a vocabulary, a language, a world of our own: necessary-vital. I thought it would be a good idea to look together at the initiatives of artists who have come up with, I believe, proposals that offer the possibility of expressing oneself through "one’s" voice from one’s body. No one to speak for them. Meeting, exchanging, practising together, re-sourcing?

Israel Ngashi, better known as Wild, is a Belgian artist who has distinguished himself over the years by his singular style and passion for dance. His style is characterised by great freedom of movement, and is rooted in krump and traditional African dance. He has won numerous battles and competitions in Europe. As a member of the Konzi company, he is helping to establish krump on the biggest stages. But for him, krump is more than just a performance: it’s a movement to be shared. A true enthusiast and activist of the movement, Wild is committed to training dancers of all backgrounds and levels in the values of krump, through organised workshops and improvised sessions from Brussels to Kinshasa.

...............................................................

Krump is a street dance style that originated in the underprivileged areas of Los Angeles in the 2000s. Characterised by its raw energy, passion, African roots and intense expression, krump is often associated with fast, jerky movements and fluid transitions between tension and release. It is also characterised by its highly improvisational nature and its ability to convey deep emotions.

Krump is an acronym for Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise (kingdom; radically; uplifted; mighty; praise): an elevation of the kingdom through mighty praise.
